Great Vision Primary Takes a Trip to Democracy!

June 21, 2024

Following their exploration of Pinda Farm on June 20th, 2024, Classes 4 and 7 at Great Vision Primary embarked on an exciting journey to the heart of Tanzanian government – the Parliament in Dar es Salaam! This insightful trip aimed to demystify the legislative system and offer students a firsthand glimpse into the workings of democracy.

Swapping textbooks for a real-life civics lesson, our young learners were welcomed by parliament staff eager to share their knowledge. Through engaging presentations and interactive discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of the legislative process. They learned about the roles of different parliamentary representatives, the importance of debate and discussion in shaping laws, and how these laws impact the lives of everyday citizens.

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the opportunity to witness live parliamentary debates. Seated in the designated viewing area, students were captivated by the passionate exchange of ideas. They observed how different perspectives are considered, compromises are reached, and ultimately, how laws are enacted for the betterment of Tanzania.

This immersive experience wasn’t just about observing; it also sparked curiosity and critical thinking. The students were encouraged to ask questions, ponder the intricacies of the system, and consider how these debates might affect their own future. By the end of the day, the young learners returned to Dar es Salaam with a newfound appreciation for the importance of a strong democracy and the role of active citizen participation. The trip to the Parliament wasn’t just a field trip – it was a chance to ignite a passion for civic engagement and plant the seeds of future leaders.
