Curiosity at Pinda Farm!
On June 20th, 2024, a wave of green-thumbed enthusiasm swept through Classes 4 and 7 at Great Vision Primary as they embarked on a field trip to Pinda Farm, a leading Tanzanian grape producer! Encompassing vast stretches of land and impressive greenhouses, Pinda Farm provided the perfect backdrop for a day of agricultural exploration.
Stepping into a world teeming with verdant life, our curious learners were met by knowledgeable staff eager to share their passion for grape cultivation. Through engaging on-site lessons, students delved into the fascinating world of these juicy fruits. They learned about the various grape varieties thriving at the farm, from the deep crimson hues of red grapes to the refreshing green of muscats. The staff explained the importance of soil composition, irrigation systems, and pest control in ensuring a bountiful harvest.
While the students didn’t directly get their hands dirty, they were captivated by the opportunity to observe the intricate processes up close. They watched in awe as experienced workers carefully tended to the vines, their movements a testament to years of experience. The students even had the chance to participate in interactive discussions, asking questions and gaining insights into the challenges and rewards of running a successful farm.
Pinda Farm’s diverse offerings extended beyond grapes. Students embarked on a virtual tour of vegetable gardens, learning about the importance of healthy eating and the vital role agriculture plays in nourishing our communities. They gained a deeper appreciation for the journey from seed to plate, sparking their curiosity about sustainable farming practices.
By the end of the day, our budding agriculturalists returned to Great Vision with a newfound respect for the dedication and expertise required to bring food to our tables. This trip wasn’t just about learning facts and figures – it was an opportunity to ignite a passion for understanding where our food comes from and the importance of responsible agricultural practices.
